Filling Your Bucket

The holidays are fast approaching, which can mean many different things.  Great times with friends and family, connecting to social supports you may not see on a regular basis - like extended family, decorations, food, events and the closing of another year - another chapter.  For many, this can also mean stress, anxiety, an increase in relationship conflicts, feelings of isolation, fear and depression.

As December begins, now may be a good time to look at how full your bucket is.

Self-care is a huge piece to our internal balance and well-being, and it's usually the first thing we throw out the window when life gets busy and stressful. Like a vehicle, we won't get very far without continuous maintenance and filling up the gas tank!

What's in your bucket?  What makes you feel refreshed, energized and motivated? Be curious about your bucket - is it overflowing? Is it empty? Are there things in your bucket that no longer benefit you like they used to?It's important for us all to regularly put ourselves first.  We need to put on our own oxygen masks before we can help others.  What can you do today to add a little more into your bucket than you did yesterday?

Some options:

  • Get some sunshine every day

  • Go for a walk outside

  • Meditate

  • Yoga

  • Spend time with people who make you happy

  • Journal

  • Listen to your favourite music
